  1. Hi there Norman,

You are absolutely correct, nutrition is essential as we get old, probably just as essential as when we were newborn and growing babies.

Good nutrition strengthens the immune and endocrine system when it is at its most vunerable and weakest!

Great article and thanks for the reminder!

  2. I think eating healthy nutritious foods is essential to all of us not matter what our age is.

I understand though that as we get older our bodies change and we start to slow down.

By this time it is too late to start making changes and these habits of eating good foods need to be with us from a young age to be able to benefit later on!

I think vegetables of course offer the nutrients the body needs and certain fruit juices too.

I also heard that a small glass of whisky in the night time cannot do any harm too, have you heard that?

Thanks for the information here, it is very helpful!

  3. I don’t consider myself a senior, but to some the “age” I am is considered a senior. So I try to treat my body with products that help, well seniors. Okay I said it! LOL I was kind of surprised I didn’t see anything for heart health. I looked for it first. My ears are already shot due to a inner ear disease I have, so I am interested to know if the foods you listed will keep mine from getting worse?

  4. Hey there, I liked your article.
It is important for anyone to have good nutrition but it is imperative for seniors. I like the way you broke down the benefits you get from the different types of food. If someone is lacking in that department it is good to be able to reference where you can go to improve on that without taking artificial supplements.
Something that most people do not realize is the benefits of herbs and spices. Many do not realize they are more beneficial than just altering the flavor of food and many have medicinal properties to them.
Thank you for the good article.

Loads of helpful information that can benefit the young as well as the old. I love how you listed the fruits and vegetables that relate to the different body parts, so important to eat healthy to avoid problems down the road.
I had to meander through you site and found a treasure of information, gardening is a passion for my wife and I. We’ve both had the pleasure of growing up on a farm, and we had those fresh fruits and veggies on the dinner table.
I guess we can’t say enough about staying away from processed food, foods high in sugar and eat a healthy well balanced meal with a great exercise program.
Thanks, Norman for the wonderful insights!

  6. Norman,

This was a great read. I certainly agree. Providing the right nutrients for our body is definitely very important and crucial to how we physically and emotionally feel on a daily basis. I changed my lifestyle late October of last year with working out and feeding my body with the proper nutrients. And I can honestly say, it’s made me feel 100 times better. Before that, I was eating fast food just about everyday. It’s made a huge difference.

  8. Norman,
This is especially true for seniors, because as we all age, we find we can no longer tolerate most medications, where in the past we could depend on them to (sort of) correct our bad eating habits.
Because of poor eating habits and putting on some weight after menopause, I found myself with diabetes. Not a place I want to be in or ever thought that i would, but now I am having to make some drastic changes to my lifestyle and these changes have put a tremendous amount of stress on me. It would have been better had I had healthy eating habits my whole life, then this whole process would be stress-free for me, in fact, it probably would have never even come up.
Every time I view your website I am impressed with the depth of information here.

  10. I agree with the other comments, healthy eating is important for you at any age. It’s pretty helpful that you listed specific fruits and vegetables that aid in specific body part health. I don’t think people realize how much herbs enhance the flavor of food. My spice rack has 36 different herbs and spices that I cook with on a regular basis.

An older person should eat as many of these nutritious foods in each area for: all the great various parts of one’s anatomy. I eat many of these food now so I’m encouraged about that moving forward as life goes on. The healing wonders of herbs was a surprise to me. I have used bay leaves when I’m cooking pasta…I was unaware of all of its incredible health benefits! I’m definitely going to start incorporating bay leaves into my daily diet! ~ Tam

  13. Imagine if we all ate like this from the word go! From the moment we could consume solid foods-what a different state of health we would all be in today!

I really appreciate the reminder of this list of healthy foods and has added motivation to me to include more of these foods each week. I am doing ok on the whole, but it could always be better! The modern lifestyle is so tempting to want to skip what is healthy and good for us at a very basic level, and there are so many things that take our attention away. However, a few simple changes of diet can be amazing. I have recently been trying to include 1 green smoothie a day into my routine, and even that alone can sometimes feel time consuming. However, I am already noticing the benefits and feel like something is missing if I haven’t had a green smoothie!

  14. This is so spot-on. My dad is gaining the years and is stubborn as a mule when it comes to getting proper nutrition. Keeping a balanced diet is especially important when getting older. That being said, this looks like a good way to remind him of what he needs to be consuming regularly. But I’m guessing that I’ll need my mom’s help to get him to the stuff you’ve put down here.

    Thanks for the read Norman!
