The goods news is you have come to the right place to get a great head start which will make your work easier.
Garden tools for the beginners
Garden tools can be pretty simple to more advanced which can be expensive but when starting out you don’t have to break your piggy bank when choosing tools that fit your budget.
What I want to say here, however, is you don’t want to choose tools that are cheap either. A good price would be somewhere in between, not too expensive and not too cheap.
My childhood garden
I would like for you to take a stroll with me for a short time going all the way back to my childhood days and trust me that was some time ago, wow it is so amazing how time flies but as far as I can remember when I started my first garden I borrowed tools from my parents which was a lawn garden rake, spade shovel and I think a hard rake and from these few tools my small garden took shape as my little hands worked the soil.
Within a few short months, I was harvesting bird peppers, okras, corn, and pigeons peas. My hard work paid off and I was proud.

If you have a lawn and want it to remain polished then a lawnmower and weed wacker or string trimmer is a must but again even these tools can be purchased at an affordable price. Other advanced garden equipment includes powered and electrical tools.
But because this article is directed towards the beginner gardener we will not touch on the tools for the more advanced gardener.

Hello Norman,
Another great article with lots of much needed information for a beginner. I decided to used raised garden boxes to do my gardening. I’ve found that I need less tools, and it’s much easier on my back. I also have better drainage and less weeds. I have 2 4×12 foot boxes surrounded with mulch.
I’m not sure what a “Looper Shear” is. Can you tell me more about this tool and what it’s for? Is there another name for it?
I have a friend just starting their first garden. I will be sure to share this post with them. I’m sure they too will find this website very helpful.
Thanks for the information,
Devara
Hello Devara so nice to meet you, I am so happy that I could help and thank so much for sharing that bit of information. I know you will agree with me that gardening is pretty cool and has so many benefits. Now as to your question. lopper shears are use to cut thicker branches anywhere from half inch-one and a half inch. These tools can make those garden projects a lot easier.
I have provided a link for you from home depot that will help. All the best to you and please let me know what you think. Have a good day.https://www.homedepot.com/b/Ou… And also thanks so much for sharing my website with friends. All the best of success.
My mother and in law has the most beautiful garden you have ever seen. Mind you it took her thirty years to cultivate it.
She had all kinds of shrubs and bushes and she grew mostly perennials. She was always busy in her garden. The garden tools she used were the ones you have in your post.
The Wheelbarrow was a must as she would carry the dead twigs and leaves during the spring. I am a keen rose gardener. I am growing them in tubs, all I need is a hand trowel. I have a small lawn and I bought an electric lawnmower for the job.
Hello so good to meet you and thanks so much for commenting. It is so amazing what you are sharing about your mother in law I would love to see her garden also. So good to hear that you have a green thumb lets keep connecting with nature by giving nature a helping hand. And the best to you and have a good day.
Hi Norman,
I had sowed some flower plant seeds last week and was eagerly waiting for the shoots to show up but to my dismay nothing grew, that is when i was browsing the net for information on gardening and stumbled upon your website. Its wonderful that you have come up with this noble thought about writing articles on gardening and guiding people like me who just have a passion for gardening but don’t know where to start.
You have some great information out here.
Thanks,
Vikram.
