Promote Your Health with Carambola
My long, short, bittersweet story
I have a story to tell about this fruit because I learned a valuable lesson through this experience. I first was introduced to this fruit many years ago by my then co-worker working on a private estate. In the back of this property, there was a huge carambola tree that had so many of these fruits which were just so amazing to see.
Now my co-worker at the time told me that my then boss loved these fruits but these fruits had a very unpleasant taste, therefore, I took him at his word and for the next 1 year and 4 months I would stay clear of these fruits but what I did was take care of this tree treating it for insects and making sure it was well watered. Also, there was a large fish pond across from this carambola tree so what I would do at times was take some of these fruits, walk over to the fish pond and feed them. To my surprise, they
would swim back and forth very excited about eating the pieces of fruits as I threw them in the water. I always wondered why these pond fish were so excited about this fruit that was so sour or at least I thought they were based on what I was told by my then co-worker.
After I resigned from that estate I went on to work for our international airport where I would see a different side of these fruits and come to love them. It was a beautiful day about 2-3 years ago when my former manager told me along with a few co-workers to go to one of the local plant nurseries to pick up a few plants and this is where I fell in love with these fruits.
The nurseryman at this particular nursery gave my co-workers a few of these fruits. John one of my co-workers begin to eat one of the fruits and was saying how wonderful it tasted, he told me to give it a try, of course, I refuse because of what I was told a few years earlier but he insisted until I gave in. As I prepared myself for such an awful tasting fruit. But to my surprise, it was not what I had heard many years ago.
This was the most delicious fruit that I had ever tasted only if I hadn’t listened to my former co-worker. No wonder those pond fish went wild with excitement as I fed them with this fruit. Here I had the mother load in my hands and did not take advantage of it because of what I was told.
So ends my long, short, bittersweet story. The moral of this story is, don’t just take somebody else word try it for yourself. Since then I have introduced my family to this fruit and my son loves it. I promised him that I would go to one of the plant nurseries and purchase one of these fruit trees for him so that the whole family can enjoy these fruits that are just mouthwatering and of great benefit to our health.

Hello
Wow I have a great story to go with yours. I live in the US specifically in Arkansas. Well for a long time I have never even seen this fruit. And with my kids we are always trying something new. So these star fruits showed up and I got one for each of my kids. They love them. But when I go to tell anyone else about them they don’t know what I am talking about.
Well I love that you have told us how nutritional they really are. I knew that they had to be somewhat good for your body as they were a fruit but I didn’t realize they offered this many health benefits. I am for sure going to keep buying them.
Thank you so much.
Hello Melissa so happy to see you and thanks so much for sharing your story. Carambola is pretty amazing and has so many benefits that do our bodies a whole lot of good. I am so happy that I could help. All the best to you and have good day.
I am always looking for a new fruit to try, and carambola sounds intriguing, to say the least!
When we bought our 15 acre property a few years ago, there was a huge section where I started planting fruit trees. I’d love to add a carambola tree, but do you know if you can grow one in northern Illinois? With all of the health benefits of this fruit, it sounds like a wonderful addition to my orchard!
Also, do you know if the fruit is good for canning and for jellies and jams?
Hello Janelle it is so good to hear from you. Carambola is and amazing fruit that tastes really great has a ton of benefits. The carambola tree as far as I know of requires warm weather to perform at is best. I have never canned this fruit but it can be blended and served as a delicious healthy drink.
Also you can picked them and freeze them. What I want to suggest here is placing one in a 7-15 gallon pot, please the pot where you get the most sunlight and see what happens it is worth the try. Please let me know how it goes. Have a good day.
Great story Norman! I have often looked at these fruits in the store but have not tried it. When is the best time to purchase this fruit (what is its season)? I want to find some when they are at their best. Thank you.
