Our teeth are so important because without them it would be very difficult to enjoy those scrumptious meals. Can you imagine trying to bite into a nice juicy apple or chewing on a piece of carrot stick without having any teeth or because of poor care, your teeth are too weak to chew on these foods.

The reality is, there are many people that are facing these issues and it is very frustrating to them because they neglected the law that governs the way in which we ought to take care of our teeth. How beautiful is a smile with those pearly whites?

We should do all that we can to take care of our teeth and yet there are so many that are doing quite the opposite. I have seen many beautiful smiles over the years because of persons who took care of their teeth and then I have also seen some smiles that raised a question in my mind.

Teeth care

There are certain rules that govern the proper care of our teeth that we must follow if we hope to retain beautiful healthy teeth. Here are the steps which we should take.

1. Brush your teeth every morning and night before you retire for the evening.

2. Brush your teeth after every meal or if you’re out to a restaurant rinse your mouth after eating that delicious meal.

3. Remember to floss each day.

4. Visit your dentist at least twice a year.

5. It has been reported that chewing ice can damage your teeth.

6. Now I know that most of us if not all of us have been guilty of this one and that is chewing on that piece of chicken bone because how of delicious it tasted, sorry to let you know this but that scrumptious bone that you chewed on can also damage your teeth.

7. Yes, sometimes we all love sweets but eat in moderation because besides gaining a few extra pounds the high sugar content in some sweets, can lead to cavity and tooth decay.

8. Soft drinks may be refreshing on a hot summer’s day but drink moderately because soft drinks are not only loaded with sugar that is not good for our health but can also cause tooth decay because of their high sugar content.

9. Smoking is a NO-NO, besides the many health issues that smoking causes, smoking can also stain your teeth, so stay away from smoking that is 100% BAD for your health.

10. I know that this is a big one for many of you but I must say it so please forgive me. COFFEE, If you can’t avoid it, drink in moderation because coffee can stain your teeth besides having a few negative effects on your health.

11. Use a good mouthwash.

  1. Very interesting information about teeth care.. It is always great to know that some foods can help your teeth but i know that if you eat to many acidic foods that is not good for the enamel… I love coffee and fruits and I always buy the mouth wash that keeps the enamel strong. Great information thanks

  2. Love the article, Norman. I’ve heard that eating the right food can do more for maintaining teeth health than making sure to brush and floss every day.

Did you know that someone (Weston A. Price) did a study of many primitive societies all over the world and found that none of them brushed there teeth in any way, yet most had some of the whitest teeth you’ve ever seen? Their primitive diet was so healthy that tooth problems wasn’t even a concept for them. It just goes to show that FOOD doesn’t damage teeth, but BAD FOOD does.

    Thanks for the great article!

I must admit, I suffer from the drinking too much coffee bad habit. Do you have any tips as to, aside from trying to reduce my coffee intake, what else could I do to minimise the bad effect of coffee on my teeth?

  6. Great article and reminders or what type of foods we should be eating. I need to add a good mouthwash to my repertoire. Do you recommend any natural/organic ones? Also, I occasionally chew gum and I always assumed this was probably not good for my teeth but I don’t see gum on your list of bad things for your teeth.

    • Hello Katie it is so good to meet you, Thanks for your kind words. It is so amazing that there are foods that can actually help to keep our pearl white nice and clean. When it comes to organic mouthwash you can have a look at Essential oxygen organic brushing rinse, Jason power smile and PerioClear organic mouth wash. The list that I wrote are just a few, trust there is more and gum can be added to this list also. If you prefer you can give sugarless gum a try. Hope this helps, have a good day.

  7. I was completely oblivious to the idea that teeth could actually clean teeth. I find that to be such a crazy paradox when I think about it hahaha. Aside from food though, is there any mouthwash or toothpaste you could recommend? I don’t have a history of bad teeth but I certainly don’t want to be making too many trips to the dentist 😛

  8. I knew there were some foods that naturally cleaned our teeth, but I am glad to see a list of some of them. I know that our overall health is definitely connected to our teeth health. What are these foods doing to clean our teeth? Is it the textures or the nutrients in the food itself?
