The Importance of Drinking Water

Water Drops

I heard these words many years ago when watching a television program and this saying is true,” water is the liquid of life”. Where would we be without it, water is our most precious resource and we must do all that we can to ensure that we make water a  part of our diet.

Water is used in so many things and in so many ways, can you imagine this world without it. All life form depends on water to be sustained, from the largest animals to tiniest microscopic organism. So what does water do to the body to keep it healthy?

Even before the discovery of electricity or the invention of light, generations before us survived well into their hundreds, water was one of the things that they depended on, it just goes to show that humans were living for a long time without modern-day comforts, but the use of water was always there for their survival. So again we can see the importance of water.

Water and our bodies

When we look at plants, for example, plants are made up of mostly water and vitamins, when we consume plants we are giving our bodies these superfoods that benefit us in so many ways, it is no doubt why our bodies get supercharge by taking a refreshing drink of water.

The body is said to be composed of 80% water

There are times when I would tell persons that nothing can quench our thirst or benefit our bodies like taking a good drink of water. Water helps our bodies to get rid of toxins, a build-up of these toxins can cause serious harm to our bodies. How does this all works?

Water and our kidneys

Our kidney’s job is to help our bodies get rid of toxins by filtering impurities. These impurities are stored in our bladder, when we drink water the kidneys use this water to help remove these toxins from our bladder through urination. But if we are not drinking sufficient water not only is our kidneys in danger of not functioning the way it should but our bodies will become sickly.

It is said that we can go for weeks without food, but the body can only go a week that’s seven days without water. So again we can see the importance of water. Just like how cars need fuel in order to run properly so do our bodies need water to function.

Have you ever had the unfortunate experience of running your car when it was low on fuel? I had this experience and it was not a good one, after a while, the steering wheel locked up on me and I had to pull to the side of the road, not only that, I was told by my mechanic that if I run my car too low on fuel it can actually damage the fuel pump.

If we treat our bodies the same way then our organs will lock up so to speak, in other words, our organs will begin to malfunction and when this happens this spells trouble.

  1. I learned my lesson on water. I recently went in for my yearly physical and was told I needed to see a heart specialist. Long story short, I wasn’t drinking enough water, causing my heart to pump slower, and make my blood thicker. It also caused me to have tingling in my arms at night. I started drinking a LOT more “flavored” water and went back in. Now I am all good 🙂 I told my dr how much I dislike water, and he said as long as I was drinking more liquid (non calorie), that I would be good. So yes, you are right about water!

  2. This is some solid information. I love the colours and the design of your page. Water is fantastic for you and you want to have a good balance. I know some people, like all things, like to over consume (water logging, blood pressure drops, electrolyte imbalance etc.) which can be just as dangerous as under consuming. Might be worth adding something like that in as well? Overall though, this is well done and put together well! Continued best wishes!

  3. This article hit home. I agree with everything you’ve said in this post. I’m speaking from experience. The difference when my water intake is over 64 oz a day and when it’s not is astronomical. I feel more energized, digestion is much better, and I drop weight with very little effort. There is no better drink out there than pure water. It’s not even close!

  4. Water is definitely the most precious resource on this planet and day-by-day humans are constantly figuring out new ways to apply water to cars, machinery, as well as the body. Its because of water that the body has a reliable source of fuel that helps to remove toxins instead of adding them to the body.

  5. Hi Norman,

I couldn’t agree with you more when you said nothing can quench thirst or benefit our bodies like taking a good drink of water. I live in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, where temperatures sometimes reach 40 degrees centigrade and above. You bet there’re times when I feel even a cold beer won’t do the trick…water is the ultimate drink. One thing that I noticed while working at the ER of a university hospital in our area was that we used to see a lot of cases of renal stones. The vast majority of these patients admitted they never drank up to 1 litre of water per day–most patients drank at most 2-3 glasses of water per day. This goes to say that many people still do not understand the importance of drinking water.

  6. It is really great to see an online site that is showing the importance of drinking water and keeping our body’s hydrated. I know myself I drink a lot of water it is the only thing that quenches my thirst. I think it all stems back to how you are raised. My mother only had water and milk in our home as we were growing up, she didn’t have the soda’s and kool-aid as did other parents. That goes to show she knew then that water was the stable and that we needed it to stay healthy and keep our bodies functioning correctly. Kudos to all mom’s out there pushing the water.. I love your site! I am bookmarking it to make sure I can come back later and see what else really good information you are giving us to keep our body’s healthier. Very refreshing article! Debra

  7. Thanks for the reminder about drinking water. Lots of great info in your article. Personally, I keep a large stainless steel bottle of water at my desk and on my nightstand. It’s a constant reminder to drink water. I’m not thrilled with plain water. So I add some True Lemon or True Lime to the water. Tasty…and no calories! In addition, I have a Brita water filter and always drink purified water. Thanks again!

  10. Water is very important in our daily intake. Still I go to soda’s and I know they are not good at all, but they taste good. I drink more water from our well. It has been tested to be good. Although it is fine to drink I have wondered if the calcium from the well water would be of any harm. I have been drinking this water for 5 years and so far no harm form calcium. I know calcium is good for you in some amounts. What do you think about the minerals in water being of any harm to the body? Also, I did not know about benefit C. Water helps to relieve headache.

Also, your listing of all the different things that water does for each of us was very impressive.

  14. Excellent topic in my opinion! People these days don realise just how important water really is and that we take it for granted everyday. I know a lot of people mostly kids that don’t even drink water and unfortunately that is not healthy considering all the different additives in soft drinks and juices
