Promoting Healthy Skin Naturally
It is so good to have healthy skin that is radiant and healthy-looking but the only way that can happen is by taking good care of our skin. When it comes to skincare many persons do not even give this a second, though.
But taking good care of our skin is just as important as taking care of our hair, teeth, eyes, and other body parts. I have seen persons with skin that is far from healthy-looking, now don’t get me wrong, I am not talking about persons that may have a skin issue, I am talking about persons that are not taking care of their skin to the point where their skin is dry and rough looking.
There are however some factors that may also play a part in affecting a person’s skin which we will be looking at.
Some factors that affect our skin
1. Water plays a big role in the health of our skin. The water we bathe with may have impurities and these impurities once in contact with our bodies can have a major impact on our skin.
2. Running the bath too hot and bathing in hot water to the point where we either scold our skin or our skin may begin to peel. This can happen especially in cold weather where persons take hot baths and then exposes themselves to the cold.
This is dangerous because not only can your skin peel but the switch from cold to hot and then cold again can also have an adverse effect on the body as well.
3. Summertime is a great time to be outdoors enjoying and taking in all that nature has to offer even going beaching, but our skin can also be damaged by the sun. Skin cancer is one of those serious issues.
4. Cars, trucks, buses, motorbikes and so on also can have an effect on our skin, the fumes and smoke from their exhaust coming in contact with our skin can cause skin damage.
5. Smoke from factories can also cause damaged skin.
6. Some plants such as poison ivy and so on, in a case like this be very careful when going on nature walks.
7. Some plants we may be growing in our landscapes and gardens can have an adverse effect on our skin. I remembered many years ago I was employed at a five- star resort, part of my duties was to help take care of the interior plants, now what was so interesting was there was a certain plant that had an adverse effect on my co-work but surprisingly it did not bother me at all.
So some plants that we grow as part of our landscape can have an adverse effect on the skin, make sure if you have or maybe thinking of installing plants that are not irritating to your skin.
8. Age or aging is something that we have no control over, our skin is affected as we get older but even then we can still have healthy skin by treating it.
There is more that can be said at this point on how our skin is affected but what I want to turn our attention to is how can we get and maintain healthy skin.
How to have and maintain healthy skin?
1. Drinking plenty of water can help to keep the skin healthy-looking. To learn more about the benefits of water follow this link. Your health and water.
2. Fruits and vegetables are also great for healthy-looking skin. Strawberries, apples, carrots, beetroot, sweet potatoes kiwi, oranges, spinach, blueberries, pomegranate, Â green tea, black currants, guavas, yellow bell peppers, pumpkin seeds, avocados, broccoli, papayas, red grapes, garlic, green tea, pineapple, bananas, plums, and whole grains.
3. Herbs which include aloe vera, turmeric, chamomile, bay leaves, sage, basil, rosemary, echinacea, lemongrass. To learn more about herbs and their healing properties follow these links garden herbs that contain healing wonders and how to grow herbs, the benefit of herbal teas.
4. Nuts which include walnuts, cashews, Â almonds, brazil nuts, pecans, chestnuts, and macadamias. Follow the link for more information on nuts. Nutritional facts about nuts.
5. There are also skin products you can purchase such as coco butter, sunscreen, and so on.

Norman,
You’ve got a great topic here. As a wife, mother and 54 year old matron with aging skin to pamper, this is exactly the kind of topic I research.
I would like to know a bit more about what benefits these foods offer my skin. What nutrients do these foods offer? What results can I hope for?
All the best,

Hello thanks for sharing and for your advice all the best to you and have a good day.
Very good advise on How to get and maintain healthy skin.
Is there anywhere to buy the herb sage? It’s hard to find it over here. Is there’s a place where I could buy online and have it shipped over ?
Your contents pages are so informative and if you have a shop link, I would easily click on it and make a purchase.
Example Sage seeds to grow as a herb,or skin products like coco butter. Or did I miss your shop link ?
Hello Jaclow it is so good to meet you, what you can do is check with your plant nursery or garden center to see if they carry herb plants. And I am so sorry have not provided a link as yet I am still working on that but will soon. So please do stay in touch. All the best to you and have a good day.
First of all, I love your website. You have obviously worked very hard on this and I am sure it will be a great success. Will you be having some links to gardening tools, composters and bird feeders? Also would be interested in knowing if you will have any content on your site related to plants that help alleviate arthritis?
Wishing you much success with your site.
Hello jemercer it is so good to meet you and thanks a million for your kind words, I am in the process of adding links so please stay tune. Please also be on the look out for this article, all the best to you and have a good day.
I live in a very sunny area and spend a ton of time outside in the summer and unfortunately I rarely use sunscreen. Do you have any recommendations for all natural sunscreen alternatives? Some of my friends swear by coconut oil, plus it smells good and you can cook with it. What do you think?
Hello it is so good to meet you, for natural screen you can try, uv natural sunscreen sport spf 30 + or soleo organics natural sunscreen. As far as I know, the coconut oil that we use to cook food is different from the coconut sunscreen. Hope this help, all the best to you.
My wife is always talking about her skin and my skin and healthy skin, so I was excited to come across this Post and site of yours since we are always wanting to know more. I, too, am interested. I don’t think healthy skin has to be a mostly ‘woman’ like concern. Both males and females should be worried about your skin. Isn’t true that the largest organ in the human body is indeed our skin?
thanks again – MB.
Hello it is so good to meet you, I am glad that I could help. and you are right, I to heard that the skin is the largest organ in the body. All the best to you
Thanks for the interesting article!
I’ve had all kinds of problems with skin during the past 20 years, and the single biggest help has been water.
After I learned to drink enough water every day, there’s been a huge change in the condition of my skin.
There’s been a lot of discussion regarding coconut oil these past years, people are saying it’s really good for the skin – what’s your opinion about this?
Hello Henna it is so good to meet you and thanks for your comments. Coconut products are so great not only the odors but how healthy it is. My favorite grease that I use is coconut grease, my wife use it also along with coconut cream for her skin, so I would say coconut products are top of the line. Hope this helps, all the best to you and have a good day.

Thank you for sharing all of this information! I had no idea plants could cause problems for my skin! Especially plants I might keep indoors. What are some common plants I might keep indoors that could cause skin irritation for some people?
I’d also be interested in learning more about each of the fruits you mentioned and what kinds of vitamins they contain that may benefit my skin!
Thank you for all of this!
Ashley

Yes, as I get older I am always looking for ways to try and keep my skin young and healthy looking. I really didn’t know that drinking a lot of water would help this. I had just started doing this because of my doctor. Seems like Turmeric is good for so many things. I will have to invest in getting some. The benefits are endless. I also love a lot of the other fruits and vegetables you have listed. I will have to make a conscious effort to start eating more of them.
Good morning Matt’s Mom my good friend it is so good to see you again, It is said that “our skin is the largest organ of our bodies” so we should do all that we can to keep our skin healthy. Glad that I could help and thanks for sharing. Have a good day.
Hi there,
Many thanks for sharing your findings, reminds me how important to take care of my own skin, from within, but also without. (I was wondering, having been to Hamams and Saunas, whether you see any benefits in them, despite the heat. Surely you must have heard about their health benefit. I recall someone applying henna inside a steamy room, something that seems to be a common practice in Morocco.
I have myself stopped using moisturisers and apply only natural oils (olive oil although smelly, but jojoba oil works amazingly it seems). I know that you are dealing with foods here, but could you give some tips on natural ingredients that promote healthy (foods included) that could be applied without.
Many thanks and very best 🙂
Hello El it is so good to meet you and having healthy skin is something that we should all strive for. It is also good to have steams baths because it helps to clean the pores and renew the skin. Coconut oil, honey, avocado, grape seed oil, sea salt and so on are all natural that you can try. There are just so many that you can choose from and try. Hope this helps, all the best to you and have a good day.
I really love this site, I am almost 40 and my skin is very important to me, I had no idea some of the vegetables and even nuts that could be used for healthy skin.
I am not a big water drinker I do know how important it is in skin, but I do love vegetables and the information in this was amazing for eating right ones and mixing it up a bit.
I use to try to create my own ways of making smoothies to help but the info I found here was much more enticing and just an all around good read. I really enjoyed the link for fun nuts, I eat peanuts, all kinds, on a daily basis but never knew actually how good they were for me, thank you for that.
Hello Robin it is so nice to meet you, I am glad that I could help and thanks for those kind words, what we put in our bodies will determine how are bodies will respond. Therefore lets keep eating healthy and drinking our daily amount of water, thanks for commenting, all the best to you. And have a good day.
Thanks for the healthy post.
You are absolutely right that fruits and vegetables improve your health and skin in particular. I have moved to the countryside and small garden is still at an early stage. However, I already endeavor to cultivate vegetables yourself instead of buying food store.
One more thing me and my family is doing it is weekly sauna visits. It is so healthy for skin just need to do sauna procedures correctly in order not to harm yourself.
Hello andrejs it is so good to hear from you again, It seems to me like both you and your family are on the right track when it comes to healthy living. Thanks for sharing, all the best to you and have a good night.
