1. Mother-in-law tongue
Yeah I know what you’re thinking and you are right, the name of this plant does sound interesting. I have been working with mother-in-laws tongue which is also referred to as snake plants for many years both out and indoors.
What I can tell you about this plant is that it is very hardy, the mother-in-law tongue can be classed in the seem category with desert plants. This beautiful plant has long narrow erected leaves and can either be a full green or green with yellow margins. This garden beauty loves medium to low light and survives on very little water.
2. Zamioculcas zamiifolia
The name of this plant is a real tongue twister but not to worry though because this garden beauty is also referred to as ZZ plant. The ZZ plant can also withstand harsh conditions and will go to work for you, the leaves are tiny and so what oval shape with a gloss. This is a medium to low light plant that survives on very little water.
3. Ponytail palm
The ponytail palm as the name says is a very beautiful plant that has long slender leaves that are tough and falls over or grows towards the ground. This garden beauty loves bright indirect light and prefers a soil that is somewhat moist but more on the dry side, the ponytail palm will work wonders flavoring your interior with its beauty and charm.
4. Aloe vera
The aloe vera plant is best known for its healing effect, aloe vera is used in many health as well as hair care and skin products. A former neighbor I knew had a yard full of aloe vera plants, in fact, his backyard looked like a mini-farm.
Be careful however when handling this plant because of the tony sharp edges, the aloe vera plant will grow in medium to low light and thrives in soil that’s somewhat moist.
5. Rubber plant
The Indian rubber plant has made a name for itself, what I love about this plant is its broad oval-shaped leaves that are a smooth dark green purplish color. Once the leaves are clean the rubber plant will show off its beauty. Indirect bright light will have your rubber plant growing its best. This is a low maintenance plant that can survive on little water or the soil should be somewhat moist not waterlogged.
6. Boston fern
There are many varieties of ferns Boston ferns being one species, ferns can become very invasive when planted in outdoor gardens but growing ferns indoors from a container or hanging basket looks really great.
Boston ferns require very little attention and grow best in indirect bright light. Direct bright light however will cause the leaves to burn. Keeping your Boston fern moderately moist keeps it growing healthy.
7. Aglaonema
One of my favorites that I have worked with so many times on indoor garden projects are the aglaonema, there are many species of aglaonema. Aglaonema is a hardy plant that can withstand a certain amount of drought.
This drought-tolerant plant needs indirect bright to medium light, the soil can be kept somewhat moist at all times. The leaves of the aglaonema are variegated and can be dark to light green with a mixture of silver to whiteish. The aglaonema siam however is a mixture of green and yellow with a red to pink margin.
Bromeliads
Bring your interior to life with bromeliads, there are said to be some 2,700 species of bromeliads that make this family hudge. I love these garden beauties because they can really light up or give you a colorful world. Bromeliads are of different colors the leaves and the flowers giving you the best of both worlds.
Bromeliads can survive on very little water and do great in indirect bright to medium light. These garden beauties are worth the investment and will go to work for you surviving on little water or the soil should be kept somewhat moist.

If not for anything else the ability of these plants to put one in a better mental state is enough rain for everyone to have these really amazing plants in their house. We keep several plants in the house and in the garden and I have a big problem with the fact that they are not easy to maintain, if they are not watered, they die very quickly. I love plants and have about 6 spider plants, they just keep having babies lol. The little spider plants that hang down and start growing as so easy to start new plants with. I just put in water until I see a few roots then put in dirt and you have another plant. Spider plants are also said to clean the air.
I also have a mother of tongue it grows well and doesn’t need much attention. I’m going to have to try a couple of the other ones your mentions. Great article
