We live in a world where there are so many people that are facing health issues and some of these health issues can be related to having a poor diet. Fast food restaurants are popping up at a rate that is really amazing promising

to delight our taste buds with recipes that will not only have us coming back for more but bringing friends and families to join in on this joyous experience. While this has been the delight and lifestyle of so many, the sad reality

is many are having health issues because of these bad choices that are working against their health. In society, today obesity has become a major problem not only among adults but children as well.

Gravediggers

What do I mean by this? I read an article many years ago where the statement was made ” that with our forks and knives we dig our graves” and this is so true. Many have literally eaten themselves to death because of poor eating habits.

What have studies shown

Studies have shown that obesity has a reach an all-time high and doesn’t seem to be slowing down with adults at 39.8% and 18.5% among children in the united states alone.

I believe that the time has come for us to take back our health by deciding to live a healthier lifestyle.

How to use fruits and vegetables to manage your weight?

Fruits and vegetables are a great choice when it comes to managing your weight. These superfoods have proven to work wonders as they bring balance to our diet.

What I have discovered also is that a diet rich in fruits and vegetables will not only help in the control of weight loss but will also help to prevent and fight illness such as

cancers, heart disease, high blood pressure, high cholesterol levels, kidney, liver problems and so many other health-related issues.

These foods, in other words, are nature’s pharmacy and can bring that natural healing while controlling our weight. Fruits and vegetables also contain vitamins that are the building blocks for our health so as we cannot lose but only win by making these superfoods a part of our diet.

While adding these superfoods to your diet it is also good to cut back or cut out those unhealthy foods that are working against you which is causing you to put on those extra pounds.

So the goal is while adding more fruits and vegetables decrease or remove altogether those unhealthy foods from your diet. Some examples of foods to avoid are foods that are high in saturated fats and sugars such as doughnuts, french fries, sodas, process foods etc…

These foods and drinks may be satisfying but at what cause. Your health is too valuable, in fact, your health is one of your greatest assets so let’s do our part to promote good health.

Having a healthy eating plan

A rule to follow is whenever you sit down to eat, your plate should always be colourful like a rainbow, an example of this is in the photo above or like this salad shown here.

Your plate doesn’t have to be that large but at least it should be colourful not only will a salad like this give you a variety of veggies but the colours will encourage you to dive in and help your self. Here are two links to follow Fruit salad recipes and garden salad recipes that will give you some great ideas on how to make this new adventure that more exciting.

Having fruits at breakfast time is a good way to start the morning off as it helps with a good bowel movement. Having veggies at lunch on a turkey sandwich makes a great choice.

Just get creative and use your imagination. Remember it is all about promoting good health

King, Queen, and Popper

A rule to live by to help maintain your weight is to eat breakfast like a king, lunch like a queen and dinner like a popper. What I am trying to say is breakfast should be our biggest meal of the day

followed by lunch which should be lighter and dinner should be the lightest meal of the day. Eating to heavy at nights and then sleeping on all that food causes those extra pounds.

Eating a hearty breakfast in the morning is good because we get to burn those foods as we move about engaged in our daily activities.

  1. I love fruits and vegetables, so I love the idea of eating more to lose weight! My only problem is that fresh fruit and veggies can get expensive (single mom on a budget). Do you know if the canned or frozen version carry as much nutrients. Will I be missing out on too much going this route?

    • Hello my friend so happy to see you hope all is well. Fruits and Veggies are really amazing but I believe in answering your question is that it is always good to eat fresh fruits and veggies because can and frozen has preservatives added and these fruits and veggies can be on the shelves or freezers of food stores for long periods of time. Also it is possible for fruits and veggies in this way to lose some if not most of it nutrients. So fresh fruits and veggies is the better choice. Hope this helps.

  2. Hi Norman, I enjoyed reading about the need to eat fresh fruit and vegetables, daily.

Providing plenty of fruit and veges for a growing family was something I always did. However, I don’t do the same for myself, these days. So your article gives me inspiration to at least eat vegetables once a day.

The thing that gets me these days is, I wonder how much goodness is still in vegetables available to purchase from supermarkets, or even small dealers in fruit and veges. By the time these vegetables are picked, or dug from the ground, packaged and taken to the markets…..by the time they are ready for sale, what goodness is left in them.

Also, the chemicals used in the process of vegetable growing is a concern.

No doubt, the best plan is, as my father did all the years of his long life – is to have our own vegetable garden free from insecticides, etc.

    Thanks for a great post.

    • it is good to have our own gardens that way we are sure of all that goodness that we receive but then again for those who don’t have a garden of their own for what ever reason buying organic grown is another option. Thanks for sharing I am so happy that I could help.

  3. I’m not vegetarian, but I do tend to make veggie-only choices when I am eating. I love veggies, and I am a particular fan of spinach and asparagus! I believe in eating a balanced diet like you have mentioned here.

As kids we always seemed to rebel against the veggies on our plates, but I have found that as I have gotten older I have come to appreciate the taste and variety offered by vegetables.

    Thanks for a great article!

  6. It’s amazing what fruits and veggies can do! Like you mentioned, I also like to have my fruits in the morning and so does my son. It helps to have more regular bowel movements.
It’s just sad to think about how many chemicals and stuff is put in them by the time they make it to our table. But I have some strawberries, raspberries, and blueberries on our yard so at least I know what I’m eating there. Also I have some veggies in my garden and nothing beats having a fruit or vegetable right from your own garden!
