A healthy snack that’s enjoyed by kids and adults alike is raisins, I remember as a child raisins was a sweet treat that my parents would often provide for all of their kids. But how did we discover raisins or what’s the history behind raisins and how far does it date back to? History records that raisins were first discovered in dry form growing on vines probably in ancient Persia or Egypt around 2000 BC.

From that time to date, raisins are still being enjoyed by millions worldwide, infact it’s recorded that “in 2017/2018, a total of 1,218,200 metric tons, of raisins were produced worldwide”. It’s also recorded that, that figure increased to around “1.36 million metric tons in 2020/2021”. Now that’s a lot of raisins, I am sure if the ancient Persians or Egyptians were still round they would be amazed at these staggering figures.

Raisins are used in so many food recipes including drinks, snacks, ice creams, and pastries, and are a good source of vitamins and minerals, raisins are fat-free and cholesterol-free, high in antioxidants, and an excellent source of fiber.

  1. I love so much raisins, but never done them at home! You give me a nice idea to try. Thank you! What do you think about to use a machine to dry to obtain a faster result? I used it for other veggie and fruits and had good results. The fact is that if you dry in short time, all properties are maintained.
